What is My Great Life?

My Great Life is a small Community Interest Company set up in May 2014 to assist Tenants with learning and physical disabilities who were finding it challenging to get their own homes.

It works alongside future tenants, homeowners, families, circles of support, statutory authorities, transforming care partnerships, other housing organisations and associations, voluntary organisations and high quality person-centred care providers to advise and assist with accommodation as part of a long term plan for individual Tenants.

Jayne Knight, the Founder, set it up so she could assist in arrangements where people needed specialist help and advice. This advice was so they could set up and live in their own home.

The accommodation is for people with learning disabilities who need higher levels of support in the community and may need adaptations and specialist staff to assist them. This is usually provided to people coming out of assessment units and long term hospital stay and follows on from the work of Ling Trust the original charity. We work with other partners to make good community housing possible for people with specialist support needs.

It is a voluntary organisation and not for profit.

 Our Leasing Model

Our work started by leasing properties following on from the work of the charity Ling Trust, where Jayne used to be the CEO for many years.

Through a method of leasing property from private landlords, My Great Life were able to assist people to to rent their own home and people live very happily in the the area they want to with his support team providing 24 hour support and family nearby.

Networks of colleagues and self advocates make good housing a possibility for all.

My Great Life leases property and acts as a specialist intermediary landlord. These houses are ordinary private properties and have a very high standards of decoration and facilities in good areas in the community.

My Great Life will work closely with the Private Landlords who lease the properties, Statutory Authorities and Care Providers in all areas to ensure that the properties are suitable and between us we can support people to have a good standard of living. Our Tenants and their representatives are the people we work with the most.

The properties are for people with learning disabilities and specialist housing support will be a condition of the Tenancy. Care will be delivered separately by an organisation of the Tenant’s choice.

My Great Life does not let property to anyone who does not require support in the community.
